Children and Youth Led Worship Sunday

On two Sundays a year our children and youth each take a Sunday and conduct the entire worship service. They read scripture, have prayer, usher, they are greeters, they are choir and they perform the special music. The Pastor does the sermon.

This is always a special day and the children and youth always do a fantastic job.

Blessing of the Backpacks & Promotion Sunday

On the Sunday before school starts back each year, the children, teachers, administrators and school personnel of all areas are honored and blessed for the coming school year. The children brought their backpacks and were given a special tag that was attached to their backpacks with a special message that would go with them everyday to school.

The message was this: My backpack has been given a special blessing just for me. I am part of a family at Covington First United Methodist Church where I am cared for, prayed for and loved.

Lent

During the forty days of Lent we hold services such as Community Ash Wednesday Service, a live drama of “The Last Supper” on Maundy Thursday, Palm Sunday, Holy Week Services and Easter Services. As Christians, this is a holy and special time for us as we reflect on the fact

that Jesus died on the Cross because of his love for each of us.

Special classes are held for our children during this time to help them understand why the season of Lent is so important to us as Christians. Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday are very special days for us as we process with Palms, have special music and the church is filled with beautiful spring flowers.

Advent

Advent is a wonderful time for us at FUMC. Our church is even more breath-taking than usual as it is filled with candles, wreaths, garlands and trees adorned with all the symbols we recognize as United Methodists.

The season is filled with special services and fellowship opportunities that help us to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour.
